We take time for some moments of SILENCE in this place of quiet reflection.

This is my first Chapel Assembly with you for this SY.

As an important member of this learning community, on your last years within these rather protected environment, I thought it would be helpful to remind ourselves of the goal of Assumption Catholic Education.  And this is important for all of us to understand.  That over and beyond the lessons, the subjects, the courses that all schools provide, our aim is to develop persons who will be able to contribute in making a positive difference, in making society better than it is today – through honesty, integrity, kindness, love – capable of making sacrifices for the common good; committed to peace, justice and upholding human dignity.

These last few days all of us have heard the news about the attacks on Iran and Israel. 

The other day we just commemorated the 80^th anniversary of the end of World War II.

We hope that our Assumption Education instills in all of us the truth that Pope Leo articulated for us last Sunday, that “violence, wars do not and will never ever solve problems, rather they instead amplify them by causing wounds that take generations to heal.

Today more than ever, humanity cries out and pleads for PEACE.” (Pope Leo XIV)

And before we play the blame game, let us look into our own hearts, because  peace begins with each one of us. This is the ultimate goal of Assumption Catholic Education – for all of us to be peace-bearers and peace-builders in thoughts, words and actions.

So today, I invite all of us to ask ourselves how much we have contributed to the absence of peace in our world thorough our violent thoughts, violent and harmful words and actions. And in silence be sorry and make a humble commitment as human beings and as Assumption learners, to PEACE.

 

 

この静かな振り返りの場所で、少しの沈黙の時を持ちましょう。

この集会は、今年度最初のチャペル・アッセンブリーです。

この学びの共同体の大切な一員として、そしてこの守られた環境で過ごす最後の年となる皆さんに、アサンプション・カトリック教育の目標を改めて思い起こしてもらいたいと思います。

これは私たちすべてにとって大切なことです。なぜなら、すべての学校が授業や教科、科目を提供する中で、アサンプション教育の目指すものはそれを超えて、「誠実さ、正直さ、思いやり、愛をもって社会に貢献し、よりよい社会を築いていける人間」を育てることだからです。つまり、「共通善のために犠牲を払うことができる人間」、「平和と正義、人間の尊厳を守ることに献身できる人間」を育てることを目指しています。

ここ数日、私たちはイランとイスラエルへの攻撃のニュースを聞いてきました。

また、先日は第二次世界大戦終結80周年を迎えた記念の日でもありました。

私たちは、アサンプション教育によって、教皇レオが先週の日曜日に語られた真理を心に刻みたいと思います。

「暴力や戦争は決して問題を解決することはない。それどころか、それらは何世代もかけて癒される傷をもたらし、問題を拡大させるだけである。」

「今日ほど、人類が平和を求め、平和を願っている時代はありません。」（教皇レオ14世）

誰かを責める前に、自分自身の心を見つめてみましょう。なぜなら、平和は私たち一人ひとりの中から始まるからです。

これこそがアサンプション・カトリック教育の最終目標です――私たち一人ひとりが、思い・ことば・行いにおいて、平和の担い手・築き手になること。

今日、私たちは皆で自分に問いかけてみましょう。

「私たちは、どれだけ暴力的な思い、傷つける言葉や行動によって、世界の平和の欠如に加担してしまっただろうか？」

そして、そのことを静かに振り返り、心から悔い改め、人として、そしてアサンプションの学び手として、平和への謙虚な約束を新たにしましょう。
